what is the difference between scene and non-scene releases?

I'll give you a general idea:

Scene releases are from groups which go by certain names or initials, some have different objectives/motives as a group, there is certain rules that's suppose to be respected and understood within the community, and that's about all I will say about that.

A non-scener can be tagged by a user name/initals or an unofficial group that provided the rips or purchases, or be untagged/unclaimed files, the quality can be hit or miss, scene files come with certain files besides just audio or whatever it is you are downloading that will give you information about the source, and files that are suppose to verify the quality, but non scenes can come with these type files also but generally do not.

I hope that wasn't too confusing for you, and hopefully you now understand better.

yes, they can be, but not always... they are suppose to be though.

if you are a stiffler for quality always check to make sure.

If it doesn't matter, then it doesn't matter :P and no problem.
